Above: Ho
Chi Minh against the communist red background. |
The Ho Chi
Minh story was very interesting. He grew up in a middleclass family, educated
by the French school system and the traditional mandarin system within
which he had to pass a series of intense exams on a range of subjects
(which is like the decathlon for the brain I am told.) From there, he
took off for Europe and worked and learned more and more about the communist
party ideology. |
He ultimately returned to Vietnam and helped lead the vietminh movement against the French colonials. He is called by many here Uncle Ho (bac ho) and is beloved. I will get more details from the visits to the museum and tomb here in Hanoi in the next few days. What is interesting is that the French policy of educating the masses really contributed to their downfall. Many of these movements against the French approved emperor and the French colonials were student led movements. I guess the republicans have the right idea... don't teach the masses anything and they won't be able to speak up against us.hile. But this is the sort of flexibility that I have with my own driver. I can stop whenever I like. |
Above: Outside of the Ho Chi Minh Tomb. Quite a scene, with gaurds in their finest herding people through to see what looks like a wax figure of Ho Chi Minh. Actually Ho was embalmed by the soviets and gets a repeat performance every few years.
