Continued: The night train back to hanoi was just as advertised. Comfortable, roomy, no bars on the windows, a bit more "fresh"air, and it left on time. SO, we got to Hanoi with plenty of time to show josh his two key sites: the ho chi minh mausoleum, and the army museum. He has about 150 pictures of fallen plans, tanks, antiaircraft guns, so on and so forth. Again, propaganda abounds in these places... there was a French helmet full of bullet holes from Dien bien phu (the site of the final victory of the viet minh armies over the French) and the caption read, "evidence of the French failure." Yes, they aren't always sensitive to tourists. |
Right: The Red Zao women pulling out their goodies. The Red Zao women shave their hair way back from their foreheads and wear this fabric folded over and over on top of their heads.
